Golden West Volleyball Club Coaches
Golden West prides itself on hiring and training one of the best coaching staffs in the country. Our staff includes former and current NCAA College coaches, community college coaches, as well as local high school, junior high and elementary school coaches. All combined our coaches, past and present have won an NCAA National Championship, 3 Community College State Titles, 2 CIF State Titles, 12 CIF Southern Section Championships and countless league championships and Junior Olympic Medals. Our 16-Asics coach, Kevin Hitt, was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Hall of Fame, having been on the coaching staff during Northern Michigan University's National Championship run in 1991.

When you look up and down our coaching roster, it would be hard to find a more qualified staff.


Jason Dillard
Club Director, Head Coach 18-Asics

Hometown: Newport Beach
Coaching Experience: 10 years

This is Jason's 4th season as the Club Director of Golden West Volleyball Club and 5th year as a coach at the club. Jason has 10 years of coaching experience in College, High School as well as Club volleyball. He spent one year as an assistant coach at the University of California Riverside and currently is an assistant at Fullerton College. The rest of his experience consists of High School and Club coaching at Esperanza and Mater Dei as well as Santa Monica Beach, The LBC, and Golden West Volleyball Clubs. Jason has been a part of teams that have won 3 CIF Championships, 1 State Final and also a bronze medal with The LBC Volleyball Club in 2001.
Kevin Hitt
Web Designer, Head Coach 16-Asics

Hometown: Lakewood
Coaching Experience: 17 years

Kevin starts his 8th year here at Golden West VBC and recently took over the girls volleyball program at Canyon High School which made its first CIF appearance since 2001. Before taking that position, Kevin served as an assistant coach at Long Beach State University from 2004 until 2006. Prior to that Kevin was the head girl's volleyball coach at Mayfair High School ('98-'04) where he coached 7 consecutive Suburban League titles with a league record of 80-0 over the 7 years. During that span at Mayfair, Kevin's players were named Suburban League MVP 6 times and had 30 All Suburban-League players. Kevin's past includes a 7 year run at Ichiban Volleyball Club, which featured players such as Misty May, Katie Olsolvsky, Heather Bown, Heidi Illustre, Jessica Sudduth, Jennifer Fopma, and Robin Lewis. Kevin claimed his own Bronze medal with Ichiban in the 18's Division at Jr. Nationals in 2000. Additionally, Kevin's collegiate experience includes assistant coaching stints at Dominquez Hills '99-'00, Rice University '94, and Northern Michigan Univ. '91-'93 where the Wildcats won the NCAA Div II National Championship in '93. During his time as a collegiate assistant coach Kevin has coached 3 NCAA Division II - Players of the Year and 12 NCAA All-Americans. Kevin has also served as head tryout coach for the Olympic Festival and an evaluator for the Junior and Youth National Teams for three seasons. In 1998 Kevin was inducted into the Northern Michigan University Athletics Hall of Fame. In 2007, Kevin Hitt and Jimmy Munoz pushed their 17-Asics team to Silver in the 17-National Division.

Kevin Wray

Hometown: Huntington Beach
Coaching Experience: 11 years

Kevin Wray brings solid playing and coaching experience to Golden West for the 4th season since returning from Washington State University. As a player at Huntington Beach High School he won back to back CIF Volleyball Championships then won back to back State Championships at Golden West Community College. Kevin served as assistant coach at Baylor for 7 yrs and 1 year at Washington State. Kevin has 10 years of club coaching experience (Asics Nova & Golden West) winning 2 gold and 2 bronze medals. Kevin is also the Head Instructor for Junior Spikers in Huntington Beach. Kevin spent one season at Orange Lutheran High School and the last two seasons at St. Jospeh's High School were his 2008 team reached the CIF Div. III quarter-final match.
Kinsey Ross

Coaching Experience: 9 years

A 2004 graduate of Armstrong Atlantic University, Kinsey is in her 5th season with the Golden West Volleyball Club and 9th season of coaching club. Kinsey was instrumental in Golden West College winning two state championships. The team went undefeated in her Community College career and was named to the All Tournament Team in 2000. Kinsey spent 3 years as the assistant women's volleyball coach at Santa Ana College and recently received her master's in education. She is now a teacher and volleyball coach at Mater Dei High School.
Jaclyn Chavez

Coaching Experience: 6 years

Jaclyn Chavez is Esperanza's girl's JV coach and Varsity Assistant and has been since she graduated from EHS in 2002. This will be her 5th season coaching at Golden West Volleyball Club. Jaclyn just graduated with her BS in Math Science from Cal State Long Beach and is looking to get her MS in the next three years.
Dave Huber
Assistant Coach 17-Asics
Age: 26
Hometown: Los Alamitos
Coaching Experience: 5 years

Dave is in his fourth season coaching at Golden West Volleyball Club and was Jimmy Munoz's right hand man for three years at Los Alamitos High School before taking over the program two seasons ago. This year the Griffins are in the quarter-finals in the top CIF division in Southern California. He is a former Div. 1 college player at Long Beach State University where he was an outside hitter and we are pleased to have his coaching experience back on staff.
Ivan Ortiz

Age: 26
Hometown: Anaheim
Coaching Experience: 5 years

Ivan is in his 3rd season at Golden West Volleyball Club after returning from France two years ago where he where he coached girls volleyball and played in the men's league. While in France he was the outside hitter for the men's team that took second place and coached the cadettes team that finished 1st in the Basse Normandie League. After graduating from UCI, Ivan was recruited to coach girl's volleyball at El Modena High School, where 4 years prior, he was captain of the boy's volleyball team. Currently he is the first year Head Coach at Fairmont Prep where his team made a second round appearance in CIF.
Carlos Briceno
Head Coach 15 Asics, 14 Black
Age: 26
Hometown: Long Beach
Coaching Experience: 10 years

Carlos Briceno graduated from Fountain Valley High School in 1985, earned a Scholarship to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. In 1990 he graduated from the University of Hawaii with a BA in Communications. He also achieved All-American honors in volleyball his sophomore, junior, and senior years. In 1991 he joined the National Team and earned a spot on the 1992 Olympic Team that eventually won a Bronze Medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. In 1993 he left the National Team and began playing on the beach. Carlos captained Team OP on the Bud-Light Four Man Tour and concomitantly played doubles on the FIVB Tour. While on the FIVB Tour he won the Silver Medal at the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia and a Silver Medal at the World Championships in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. After six years of playing professionally on the beach he retired and enrolled at Azusa Pacific University earning a Master of Science degree in Physical Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration. Carlos has been teaching Physical Education at Lindbergh Middle School for the past 10 years. He has been coaching junior girls for the past 8 years. He is married to Stephanie Briceno and has two step-daughters named Justyn and Jianna Bonomi. Justyn and Jianna play volleyball at St. Joseph High School.
Brett Rinks

Coaching Experience: 3 years

As an outside hitter Brett competed for The LBC Volleyball Club as well as Valley Christian High School where he started for three years. During that time Brett was MVP of the Olympic League, 1st team All-CIF, and 1st team Press Telegram Dream Team 2005 as well as winning an 18s silver medal at the Junior Olympics in 2005. Brett is currently an economics major at UC Irvine. The past four seasons Brett has served as the head girls volleyball coach at Lakewood First Baptist junior high, with two seasons at Valley Christian High School Girl's Frosh/Soph & JV and is now the Head Coach for Varsity at Valley Christian High School in Cerritos.
Brooke Raynor
Assistant Coach - 16 Asics
Age: 21
Hometown: Fullerton
Coaching Experience: 2 years

Brooke has a variety of experience both playing and coaching volleyball. She has been involved in volleyball for six years, including four years of club and two years of college play. Brooke won a gold medal at the Junior Olympic Invitational in 2004 and just recently went to the State Championships with Fullerton College. For two years she coached the boys JV and assisted the Varsity volleyball team at Cypress high school. Both years her team was Empire league champions. Last season was Brooke's first year at Goldenwest and her team returned from the Reno Festival as 2008 Character Division Winners. She is a well rounded, energetic coach whose enthusiasm for the sport is imparted to those who play for her.
Sarah Haynes

Coaching Experience: 4 years

This is Sarah's fourth season coaching club volleyball and her second with the Golden West Volleyball Club. Sarah has previously coached in Savannah, Georgia and then in Maryland for Southern Maryland Juniors. Sarah played collegiate volleyball for four years at Armstrong Atlantic State University where she currently holds the career record for most kills and games played in school history. She moved to the Southern California area two years ago and is excited to be a part of GWVBC and impart her knowledge to Southern California players.
Melissa Courtney
Head Coach

Hometown: Lakewood
Coaching Experience: 4 years

Melissa is entering her third season coaching at Golden West Volleyball Club. Melissa is a local product who competed at St Joseph's High School in Lakewood. She adds great experience to the staff from an accomplished player's perspective. Melissa competed at the highest level throughout her career, winning the Junior Olympics in the 16 open-division in 1999 and being named the tournaments Most Valuable Player while playing for Craig Pazanti. She continued that tradition by winning a bronze medal in the 18 open-division the following year.
Courney Catt

Hometown: Downey
Coaching Experience: 4 years

Courtney is a graduate of Downey High School where she played varsity for two seasons. After High School she continued playing at Fullerton College winning an Orange Empire Conference Championship in 2006. This will be Courtney's second season at Golden West Volleyball Club and fourth season coaching club overall having been a 14's coach at Protégé VBC. Courtney is currently pursuing a degree in child psychology.
